Oculoplasty (DCR, Ptosis)

Oculoplasty is a specialized branch of ophthalmology that deals with the surgical treatment of conditions affecting the eyelids, tear drainage system, orbit (eye socket), and surrounding structures. Common oculoplastic procedures include Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR), performed to treat blocked tear ducts and excessive watering of the eyes, and Ptosis surgery, done to correct drooping of the upper eyelid that can obstruct vision or affect appearance. These surgeries not only improve the function and comfort of the eyes but also enhance cosmetic appearance. Most procedures are minimally invasive, performed under local or general anesthesia, and have quick recovery times.

DCR (Dacryocystorhinostomy):
  • Treats blocked tear ducts (nasolacrimal duct obstruction)
  • Creates a new drainage pathway between the lacrimal sac and the nasal cavity
  • Relieves excessive tearing and reduces recurrent eye infections
Ptosis Surgery:
  • Corrects drooping of the upper eyelid
  • Improves vision and eye symmetry
  • Can be congenital (present at birth) or acquired later in life
General Benefits of Oculoplasty:
  • Improves eye function and comfort
  • Enhances facial aesthetics
  • Performed under local or general anesthesia
  • Day-care procedures with quick recovery
